Yesterday morning (Sunday) we went for a family bike ride to the local middle school to check out the track (it's too hot for mommy to run in the park in the afternoons, so early morning runs at the local track are under consideration). Nye and Cal rode in the trailer behind daddy while mommy rode next to them. At the track, mommy and daddy took turns doing laps while the other watched the kids.
The following information should be prefaced by saying that Nye has been on the running trail, so to speak, since he was about four months old. After seeing everyone running laps on the quarter mile track, Nye decided he wanted to get in on the action. He ran (he did not walk) the entire quarter-mile loop BY HIMSELF while the rest of us looked on in amazement. But wait, there's more. After completing the lap, he took a short water break and decided he wanted to do ANOTHER lap. This time Chad accompanied him. We estimate he ran about a 15-minute-per-mile pace -- not bad for a two-and-one-half-year-old. His feat was followed by a three-hour nap.
