This year we bought one of those pumpkin carving kits and mommy downloaded a spider and a cat design from the Web. Since we were embracing the holiday in every other aspect, we had to have the right jack-o-lanterns.
We intended to carve two pumpkins, but after the first one, I hung up my pumpkin carving hat until next year. Both boys wanted to help by using the knives to carve. Since Nye helped carve a pumpkin at school, he was certain he could carve this one on his own. He bent his carving knife into a 90-degree angle within five minutes. Cal went after the pumpkin with a screwdriver he dug out of daddy’s toolbox.
They kept pulling the pumpkin from one another and fought to get their hands in to pull out the seeds. They fought over who was helping the most. They kept taking the knives away and trying to carve on their own.
We carved the spider design and called it a night. It turned out well considering the obstacles. The only pictures we have are when it’s lit up at night and the lighting is horrible.
