We went to the open air market in Le Bugue this morning to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables for tonight’s meal. Chad, Cal and I went with Alex and his parents, while Nye stayed behind with Aunt Sissy (she was very helpful with the boys throughout this trip; she and Alex made a huge difference in managing the boys).
The quality and availability of food was impressive: cheeses, meats, fish, shellfish, vegetables, fruits, chocolates, olives, tapanades, handmade soaps, flowers and honey, as well as beautiful straw baskets (everyone had a basket to carry their goods).
The strawberries here were a favorite with mommy and Callahan. They were smaller than what we find in U.S. grocery stores and had an unusual flavor, which suggested honey or lavender. Cal ate these by the pint full and threw a tantrum if we didn’t let him hold the entire pint by himself life a big boy. We learned to always buy two pints so we could take some home.
